Research Title

An analytical study of the factors affecting Innovation fostering in Incubation Center: From Hangzhou Perspective

About The Research

Innovation is difficult to measure (Rajapathirana, & Hui, 2018; Kahn, 2018) because of the ambiguous definition (Jensen, 2011). Nevertheless, it has been associated with entrepreneurship and firm performance (Corrocher, Lamperti, & Mavilia, 2019). The incubator concept was developed as an essential strategy for enterprise development in both developed and developing countries in the middle of the 1980s (Xu, 2010). Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are critical for economic growth and social development (Gamidullaeva, Vasin, & Wise, 2020). But the failure rate of SMEs is high, exceptionally informative period. Incubators have always been seen as a big container referring to a mechanism for supporting the growth of Innovation and entrepreneurship (Wonglimpiyarat, 2016). As the biggest developing country, the Chinese government has invested and developed various types of incubators in different areas to nurture innovative culture and develop the national Innovation ecosystem. Though numerous SMEs are cultivated and survive in incubators in China, the effectiveness of incubators in fostering innovation capability is still an open issue.

Since Innovation has been a critical feature of Chinese society and government policy, the incubator is a platform referring to a system for technology transfer to promote the growth of Innovation and entrepreneurship (Xu, 2010). Incubators provide business assistance to firms in the early stages of development to increase survival rates (Wonglimpiyarat,2016). Many scholars have demonstrated the significance of Innovation in incubators and innovation parks. However, few studies have focused on the determinants and factors affecting innovation capability in incubators and innovation parks. Some studies reconstruct an innovation ecosystem model between universities, industry, and research institutes. And these studies are insufficient on excavating factors in influencing innovation capability cultivating in incubators. A few studies focus on determinants of innovation capability in incubators in different countries. The limitations of the research results in some developed countries are difficult to refer to and implement in China because of different cultures and environments.

For these reasons, it is of significant value and significance to study the factors influencing innovation capability cultivation in the incubation centre and Innovation Park in China. Theoretically, this study is expected to pave new research avenues in Innovation cultivation research. The typologies will be used to develop research guidelines that enable duplication in other cities or other areas in China or other countries. Practically, the findings will be helpful for national and regional policymakers in sorting out the relevant issues, incubator centres managers in nurturing creativity and SMEs and stakeholders in managing innovative practices. Furthermore, this study will help establish an effective national innovation ecosystem and cultivate better creative talents.
