Zhongfei Bai obtained his BSc in Rehabilitation from Sichuan University in 2012. After graduation, he joined a public hospital in Shanghai as an occupational therapist, specifically working with patients with stroke. Three years later, he came to Hong Kong and completed an MSc programme in occupational therapy. Because of PolyU’s outstanding reputation for rehabilitation science, Zhongfei decided to pursue his PhD study here, starting from 2018, under Prof. Kenneth Fong’s supervision. Zhongfei’s research aims to investigate the underlying mechanism of stroke recovery by using TMS-EEG. First, a cross-sectional study has been carried out to compare the TMS-evoked potentials among the ipsilesional hemisphere, the contralesional hemisphere and age-matched healthy controls. This study can reveal the differential features of stroke patients which may explain the reorganised cortical inhibition. Second, a cross-over study with two conditions will be conducted to investigate the underlying mechanism of intermittent theta burst stimulation in modulating the function of the brain cortex in stroke.
