Step-by-Step Applications

Below are the application steps. Please click on the specific step for details.

Choosing the right programme is a big decision and not everyone is certain of what they want to study. Talk to your teachers, parents and read through faculty and department descriptions to get an idea of what might be right for you. Please find out the details here.


To apply for PolyU programmes, you are required to fulfil the English language and academic requirements. Please find out the details here.


  • A copy of your academic transcript(s) issued by your high school/institution and/or national/international examination results (e.g. SAT, GCEAL etc.) and/or predicted grade for your upcoming examination issued by your school (if applicable)
  • Other supporting documents (if applicable)
  • Scholarship application form (if applicable)
  • Some programmes may ask for additional documentation – please check the programme requirements.


All applicants are required to pay an application fee of HKD450. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please submit your scholarship application with your university application. Create an eAdmission profile and submit your application online.


Log in to the system frequently to check for updates. You will be informed when additional documents are required. An interview may be necessary, and this is usually arranged online.


Successful applicants will receive their admission offer online. Admission results are usually announced from late January to May. Scholarship results will be announced at the same time.

*PolyU accepts applications on a rolling basis until 31 May 2023. Places will be subject to availability.


International Qualifications

GCE A-level / International A-level GCE Advanced Level or International Advanced Level with passes in 3 AL, OR 2 AL and 2 AS subjects (This is only the minimum eligibility criteria. Applicants who gain admission, typically, attain at least BBB in 3 AL subjects.)
International Baccalaureate (IB) A minimum score of 24 with at least grade 4 in 2 Higher Level subjects (This is only the minimum eligibility criteria. Applicants who gain admission, typically, attain a score of 30 or above, including bonus points.)
SAT Reasoning Test/ ACT/ Advanced Placement Test (AP)

A High School (Graduation) Diploma (non-Chinese curriculum) and any one of the following:

  • a total score of 1190 in the SAT Reasoning Test; or
  • an American College Test (ACT) composite score of 24


  • grade 3 in two Advanced Placement (AP) subjects; or
  • a score of 600 in two SAT Subject Tests

    [English language requirement is waived for those attaining a score of 590 in the Evidence-based Reading and Writing in the SAT]

English Language Requirements

Non-local applicants are required to meet the following English language requirements:

Any of the following qualifications:

  • TOEFL score of 80 for the Internet-based test or 550 for the paper-based test OR
  • IELTS Overall Band Score of 6

For applicants who have reached an equivalent English standard as below, the above English language requirement can be waived.

  • GCEOL English Grade C or above
  • GCSE / IGCSE English Grade C / 4
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) English Grade 4
  • Redesigned SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing 590
  • SAT Essay Sub-score of 8

*Individual cases will be considered on their own merits by the departments concerned. Applicants may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate their language proficiency.
