Biography

Dr Liu is the director of Cognitive Computing Lab, which focuses on both discovering the secrets of human brain by exploring information technologies, for example, fMRI imaging, and investigating novel computational models and systems by referencing brain structure and mind process, for example, deep learning. In addition to the theoretical study on the leading edge of scientific research, she works on applications with great commercial potentials, such as music therapy for emotional health. Her research interests span a wide range of topics, ranging from brain modeling and cognitive computing, image/video retrieval, computer music to machine learning and pattern recognition. Dr Liu holds a PhD in Computer Science from Columbia University in the US and MSc in Business School from Nanjing University in China. The most precious gift her got from her graduate study was the love of doing research, which benefits her enormously in her whole career path. Dr Liu has been the principle investigator of more than ten projects and awarded the best paper awards several times. She serves as the organizing committee/technical program committee members for many conferences such as AAAI and ACM Multimedia, and as the reviewers for many journals such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems as well as ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology.
