Biography

Ir Alfred Sit Wing-hang, GBS, JP, is currently a Professor of Practice and Adjunct Professor of the Department. He received the Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1981 and the Associateship in Electrical Engineering in 1982 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic. Mr Sit has long been dedicated to public services and has been Secretary for Innovation and Technology in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since April 2020. He joined the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) in 1984 and climbed the hierarchal ladder to Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services in 2017. All along, Mr Sit has been an ardent advocate of adopting innovative technologies within the public framework and has spearheaded the E&M InnoPortal at EMSD to forge a close connection between government units and the innovation and technology sector, so as to weave advanced, tech-centric and future-proof solutions into the organisational fabric. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, he has been actively promoting R&D by encouraging the adoption of homegrown technologies, in particular to tackle the pandemic, and the provision of hardware and software to enable e-business and e-learning. Mr Sit is also passionate about serving his professional community and alma mater. He was President of The Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management, and Chairman of the Biomedical Division of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He was Chairman of PolyU’s Departmental Advisory Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering from 2019 to 2022.
