About this Project

Motivation

Practical experience is crucial in engineering education, yet students often face challenges in accessing real-world equipment. In power systems engineering, for example, visiting a power substation to observe its components firsthand is rarely feasible due to safety concerns and the necessity for specialized personnel.

Response

To address this gap, a Virtual Reality (VR) system that simulates a power substation environment is currently under development. This immersive tool aims to enhance students’ understanding by allowing them to explore and interact with substation components in a virtual setting.

Student Engagement

Some students in the department are involved in the project, using their knowledge of power systems and VR technology to aid in developing the Virtual Reality (VR) system. This practical involvement not only deepens their technical understanding but also encourages their growth, making it a meaningful part of their education.

Future Expansion

Given the many power systems courses offered by the Department, this VR scene holds significant potential for expansion as it can be adapted to meet the needs of different courses.
