This project involves the development of an instructional model and learning environment based on the "T5" design model, which includes:

• learning tasks with immediate feedback;
• tutorials;
• teamwork;
• topics; and 
• online tools.

Intended educational value

On successful completion of the instructional model, students will be able to:

• manage, exploit and evaluate the techniques and processes in a range of fashion technologies;
• integrate and evaluate the processes and technologies for problem resolution and generation of quality standard;
• be proactive in responding to the technological changes in the fashion industry;
• engage openly with unfamiliar and ambiguous new technologies and innovations in a reflective and professional manner; and
• show willingness to develop problem-solving techniques and critical thinking skills in response to the changing and future needs of the fashion market.

Example of application

The project deliverables were uploaded to the Department's server so that they could be reused by the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) students. In addition, updated materials on the related topics will be uploaded to help students maximize the achievement of the learning outcomes.

At the beginning of each semester, subject lecturers can brief to students about these online learning materials using the T5 model. Students are advised to work on different modules continually according to the progress in teaching. Feedback and questions related to the subject can be posted to the forum so that subject lecturers and classmates can share their opinions. 

Evaluation/Comments

Student feedback was collected through an on-line survey. For all 18 questionnaire items, all students selected either "Agree" or "Strongly agree". More than 90% of the students strongly agree that this project work can:

• arouse their interest in learning;
• enable them to understand the basics of topic before attending the lectures; and
• allow them to learn something new related to this is not included in the textbooks.
