This learning package is designed for students to guide themselves through the whole learning process at their own pace.

Intended Educational Value

The major deliverable of this project is a guided welding simulation that students are required to complete the computer-based exercises prior to their hands-on practices. Upon the completion of the simulation exercise, students are able to:

• Properly use personal protective equipment for welding;
• Acquire abstract basic welding principles and techniques effectively;
• Recognize and differentiate different kinds of welding technologies;
• Understand the factors affecting the welding results; and
• Recognize some common welding equipment.

Example of Application

The e-learning and self-paced package was implemented on the Learn@PolyU Blackboard system for students to learn the basics of iPhone apps development. Some iPhone workshops were organized for interested students to obtain hands-on experience. The following subjects were involved in the development and/ or deployment of the package:

• COMP439 Game Programming
• COMP5326 Wireless Computing Systems and Applications
   

Evaluation/ Comments

The package was well received by the students and teaching staff involved. Furthermore, the products produced by the students were excellent and certainly higher than expectation.
