: Student Development through Outside Classroom Activities
Outside Classroom Activities Website
Description:
The website is comprised of:
- a web-based guidebook which provides various kinds of informative resources and instructions on exchange programmes;
- a platform for sharing extra-curricular information, such as post- exchange reports, subject knowledge, research papers and/or learning experience which may not be gained at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing;
- a discussion forum for ideas on and experience in designing and planning various activities; and
- a mechanism for effective evaluation of programmes for all-round development.
Intended educational value:
- The website provides a wide range of informative resources and instructions on exchange.
- Students can share their learning portfolios and comments with others.
- The website offers useful information for students who are interested in student exchange programmes and/or are nominated by the department for an exchange. Students who may not be able to join this programme can also share their experience through their learning portfolios. As inbound students can give their views and comments, the website can also nurture local-overseas student relationships and promote cultural exchange.
Example of application:
The temporary URL was disseminated for comments and was also made available to students who were nominated by the Department for a student exchange in 2008/09
Evaluation/ Comments:
- Student feedback on the student exchange programme and this web-based guidebook and platform was gathered by means of interviews and questionnaires. A total of 12 post-exchange reports and comments were collected. The overall rating of the website information was "satisfactory" (with a mean score of 4.0 out of 5). Most of the respondents in the survey agreed that the website information enhanced their global outlook and interest in engaging in activities outside the classroom (again with a mean score of 4.0 out of 5).
- This project website was posted and attached to the official website of the Institute of Textiles & Clothing (ITC). Thus, it is not advisable to offer an online discussion forum for students to pose questions freely and, instead, a FAQ section was designed in the website.
