Objectives:

To explore new means to address the quality assurance issues arising from the criterion-referenced assessment (CRA) approach implemented within the Department of English since 2002/03.

Remarks:

The project has provided an opportunity for me to learn more about CRA and assessment in terms of the theoretical underpinnings and the operational issues. I believe I have surveyed the quality assurance issues from both the staffs' perspective and from the students' perspective as well, which is very useful in terms of learning and teaching. The most important piece of message from this project is that learning and teaching is an on-going dialogue. There should be continuous communication between the learners and the teachers. It is especially crucial in making assessment effective and educational. The assessment tasks and assessment criteria could be a very powerful driving force in learning.
