Objectives:
This project has been set up to enhance the training and education of clinical educators and provide them with useful resources on good teaching and learning practices. The project involves the development of a bank of reusable resources which includes:
- instructions, guidelines and case examples for clinical educators on teaching activities and strategies for assessing students’ performance during clinical education;
- a platform for the sharing of difficulties faced by clinical educators in training students and examples of ways to handle students’ problems;
- information to bridge university teaching and clinical education; and
- relevant and updated information for clinical educators about learning and teaching theories and practices.
Remarks:
- Clinical educators were very helpful in sharing useful information. The process also revealed a strong need to develop teaching resources for clinical educators.
- Further work included the development of an online resource bank and centre for clinical educators using the information gathered. Regular review is highly recommended to update the resources required.
- The resources developed will be reused for current clinical educators or clinical educators who have newly joined our programme to: bridge the gap between different delivery modes of clinical education; help clinical educators to tackle challenges; improve the information they receive; and offer a platform for sharing. A series of workshops based on the materials developed will be offered to clinical educators to deliver related information to them.
- All students in the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy Programme will benefit if clinical educators are well-informed and trained.
Outcomes & Deliverables:
-
Video Clips of Hot Tips of Good Practices, Problems/ Difficulties Encountered and Handling Methods to Problems
-
Cases and Scenarios on Teaching/ Supervising and Facilitating Students’ Learning in Clinical Education
