Objectives:

This subject aims:

Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:

  1. analyze how individual differences shape a persons experiences of and perspectives in his/ her immediate community, the society and the world as a whole;
  2. analyze comptemporary issues in the community from a multidisciplinary perspective;
  3. apply concepts of human and social behaviour to particular social issues or community interventions;
  4. examine critically philosophical and other theoretical issues concerning the nature of reality, human experience, knowledge, value, culture and individual-community relations;
  5. analyze and synthesize information and ideas from multiple sources to generate new insights with reference to tenets in community psychology and their applications in the community settings;
  6. develop familiarity with various skills for community-related work, including force field and policy anaylsis, problem planning and public communication;
  7. apply knowledge and skills acquired to deal with complex issues in the service setting;
  8. reflect on their role and responsibilities both as a professional in their chosen discipline and as a responsible citizen; and
  9. demonstrate empathy for people in need and a strong sense of civic responsibility.
