This year’s PolyU Design Annual Show saw the unveiling of innovations from fresh graduates of the School of Design that will improve daily living. Under the theme “Blazing Creativity”, 300 pieces of student work were showcased in the areas of advertising, digital media, and environment and interior, product, interactive media and communication design.
Highlights of some creative exhibits are as follows:
Vivian designed a kickboard-based water drone with a camera installed accompanied by a bracelet with built-in global positioning system functionality. Swimmers wearing the bracelet can press a button and call for help when they are at health risk or have accidents.
Lap proposed an interactive media design including a device that comes with a sensor, a red laser beam projector and a face-recognition system that can be installed on the large screens or ceilings in MTR stations. When the light of a phubber’s phone is detected by the device, his/her image is projected onto the screen or ceiling. This will remind phubbers to pay attention to the people around them in a humorous way.
Sharon created a water usage control app for bathing. The app can calculate shower duration, set a target shower duration and play music with accompanying LED light patterns, etc. ♦
