University-Government-Industry Consortium
for Sustainable Urban Development

Initiated by PolyU, Hong Kong’s first-ever cross-sector collaborative research platform, the University-Government-Industry Consortium for Sustainable Urban Development (UGI Consortium) was officially launched in July. It serves as a platform for the development and implementation of new technologies and solutions for smart/sustainable cities and sustainable development in Hong Kong. Officiating at the launch ceremony was Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Secretary for Administration.

With 43 founding members, including eight research/academic units of local universities, 10 units/departments of the Hong Kong government and 25 leading companies, the UGI Consortium allows members to identify topics of social need and common interest, formulate research proposals and undertake collaborative research.

During the first two years of the Consortium’s operation, PolyU’s Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development will serve as its host and provide administrative support.
