Honorary doctorates bestowed upon distinguished personalities

PolyU bestowed honorary doctorates upon five prominent figures at the 23rd Congregation held on 21 October, in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments and contributions, presided over by Council Chairman Mr Chan Tze-ching and President Prof. Timothy W. Tong. The five honorary degree recipients were:

• Mr Charles Chen Yi-dan, Core Founder and Advisor Emeritus, Tencent Holdings Limited, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities.
• Dr David T.Y. Mong, Chairman and Group CEO, Shun Hing Group, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration.
• Mrs Katherine Ngan Ng Yu-ying, Vice President, May Cheong Group, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration.
• Prof. Dan Shechtman, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (in absentia).
• Prof. Xu Guan-hua, renowned scientist in remote sensing and geographic information sciences, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science.
