Prof. Ni Yiqing of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was awarded a second-class 2016 State Scientific and Technological Progress Award for the project “Key technologies for building the Canton Tower” with collaborators from Guangzhou Design Institute, Guangzhou University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Guangzhou Construction Group Co. Ltd, Guangzhou New TV Tower Construction Co. Ltd, Shanghai Construction Group, Shanghai Construction No.1 (Group) Co. Ltd, Shanghai Jiangong Construction Material Co. Ltd and Shanghai Mechanized Construction Group Co. Ltd.
The project involved the development of a high-tech system integrating structural health monitoring, vibration control, wind and solar power generation technologies for the Canton Tower.
