The Culture Promotion Committee and Faculty of Communication will be presenting the 1st PolyU Arts Festival - "China Extravaganza" from 5 March to 4 April 2002, in celebration of PolyU's 65th Anniversary.

This first-ever PolyU Arts Festival aims at promoting Chinese culture on campus with multifarious art forms and activities and the participation of many talented students and staff.

The one-month Arts Festival features 11 exciting programme and 25 activities. The Festival will be kicked off by an Opening Ceremony cum Programme Parade followed by a series of rich and varied programmes.

Film Series
The Classic Chinese Films Series features eight representative films depicting how China has developed over the course of the 20th Century. Post-screening discussions will be arranged to help the audience appreciating these films.

Chinese Opera Series
The "Chinese Opera Appreciation" introduces various Chinese Opera arts forms through a series of programmes including a Cantonese Opera performance by the Hon Fung Cantonese Opera Institute; a Cantonese Opera Concert by PolyU staff and three video shows unveling the majesty of Chinese Opera.

Talk Series
Profound experts in various realms of Chinese art fields, namely Harvard scholar, Prof. Lee Ou-fan, acclaimed poet, Prof. Yu Kwang-chung, renowned lyricist, Mr James J.S. Wong and folk musician, Mr Dong Hua-qaing are invited to give talks on literature, culture and arts in our "Millennium Talk Series" and "Literary Arts Talk Series".

Exhibitions
Four exhibitions showing different aspects of Chinese culture will be held in the Arts Festival. They are: Book Exhibition on Chinese Literary Arts; "Remarkable Chinese Landscape and Social Life" Photo Exhibition; Exhibition on Chinese Music" and Foo Sai-hang's Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Seal-engraving Exhibition.

Weiqi Match
A Weiqi match you shouldn't miss - Renowned Weiqi Master Yang Shi-hai is invited to play against eight challengers from PolyU in "A Wonderful Weiqi Match".

Finale
The Finale will be a fascinating variety show performed by PolyU students and staff and an exquisite Chinese ethnic costumes showcase. Customs and lifestyles of these Chinese ethnic groups will be introduced during the costumes show.

香港理工大學文化推廣委員會連同設計及語文學院,於本年三月五日至四月四日,舉辦第一屆理大藝術節,以「美哉中華」為主題,推出一系列展示中華文化醉人魅力的活動,為理大建校六十五周年紀念活動之一。

為期一個月的藝術節共有十多項精彩可觀的活動和演出,有透視二十世紀中國社會民生發展概況的「中國經典電影重溫」系列,有蘊藏數千年華夏子孫才思睿智和各種文化財富的「文史藝術圖書展覽」,請來名學者專家暢談文學文化藝術的「千禧講座系列」和「文藝暢敘」,雅俗共賞的「中國傳統劇藝欣賞」,有展現江山美態的「錦繡河山攝影展覽」,有別開生面的「圍棋擂台戰」,有散發典雅氣度的「傅世亨金石書畫展覽」,還有璀璨華麗的「民族服裝表演」和理大師生「文藝表演晚會」等等節目,可謂多姿多彩,琳琅滿目。
