A fruitful session with University Grants Committee

A delegation from the University Grants Committee (UGC), led by Chairman the Hon. Mrs Laura Cha, visited PolyU and had a meeting with the University’s Senate members on 29 September.

During the meeting, Mrs Cha gave a presentation on several issues, including the role of UGC and how it interacts with Government and institutions; the framework for funding and oversight of institutions’ research and quality assurance matters; and the Higher Education Review which UGC will undertake in 2010.

This was followed by an open discussion covering such issues as the implementation of the 334 Structure; UGC’s policy on research and allocation of research postgraduate student places; funding for taught postgraduate programmes; and the development of private universities in Hong Kong.

This was part of a series of meetings with the Senate or equivalent body of all government-funded tertiary institutions initiated by the UGC Chairman to foster better understanding between UGC and the institutions.
