Home-grown electric vehicle will soon hit the road

Mycar, an environmental friendly micro-car, has successfully met the roadworthiness requirements in design, safety and structure set by the Transport Department. It has recently received type approval as private car in Hong Kong, with conditions that it could travel on roads with a speed limit at or under 50 km per hour in Hong Kong.

PolyU has contributed to the conceptual development of mycar, and has provided research and profound expertise support to the Hong Kong-based EuAuto Technology Ltd, which has made extensive efforts to develop the electric vehicle.

The electric car, designed by renowned Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, is the first Hong Kong-developed vehicle to obtain the World Manufacturer Identification (WMI) Code. It is also the first home-grown vehicle from Hong Kong to hit the international market. It has a maximum speed of 64 km per hour, and can travel up to 110 km on a flat road when fully charged. A full recharge of the battery takes six to eight hours, which can be done by plugging into a normal household electricity socket, but a fast charging, can be done in two hours.

Mycar has been on sale in the UK and French markets earlier this year, and it will be available for sale in Hong Kong in October.
