In addition, Mr Jim Chan, PhD research student of PolyU’s Department of English, has recently been awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for the academic year 2011/12. The award aims at encouraging and assisting local full-time students pursuing postgraduate studies by research.

Jim’s project focuses on the choice of an appropriate pronunciation model for the Hong Kong classroom. The results of his research will be of immense theoretical and practical value for English language teaching specialists in Hong Kong and other contexts in which English is being taught and learned as a second or foreign language.
