PolyU kicks off celebrations for 75th anniversary

PolyU will be celebrating its 75th anniversary next year with the theme “Innovation and Application for the Future”. On 17 November, some 500 guests from different sectors, including Consul Generals and senior representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in HKSAR and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, community leaders, friends and partners, alumni, staff and students, participated in the anniversary kick-off ceremony held on campus.

Hosted by the Honourable Marjorie Yang Mun-tak, Chairman of PolyU Council, and Prof. Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President, the event was graced by the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Edward Cheng Wai-sun, Chairman of the University Grants Committee. During the ceremony, a video rekindling the illustrious history and achievements of the Institution was shown, as well as another video capturing the congratulatory wishes from alumni and students from all over the world. The guests also got a taste of the cupcakes specially designed by Mr Danny Ho, the Executive Pastry Chef of Hotel ICON, PolyU’s teaching and research hotel, to celebrate the University’s anniversary.

Throughout 2012, the University will organize celebratory activities to be grouped under three key areas, namely Knowledge Transfer, Innovation and Technology, and Community Services. The first one is the Exhibition on PolyU’s History now staging on campus until end 2012. Details of celebratory events can be found in the 75th Anniversary website: 75.polyu.hk.
