PolyU welcomes 5,000 freshmen to its family

PolyU launched a Pre-term Common Orientation Programme for more than 5,000 first year students of its eight Faculties and Schools from 24 August to 1 September.

This 2010/11 academic year sees the admission of more than 4,300 government-funded, and over 500 self-financed students to the University’s full-time Bachelor’s degree and higher diploma programmes.

In addition, there are about 240 Chinese mainland students joining the foundation programme, and about 60 students from 22 countries and territories joining PolyU for their Bachelor’s degree studies.

In his welcoming address, President Prof. Timothy W. Tong said, “Our world is changing fast and our students need to have an education that prepares them to anticipate the future needs of society and to solve newly emerging challenges… I urge you to make full use of the abundant opportunities available in the University to turn yourselves into practical dreamers. I have high hopes that you will graduate from PolyU not only with a wealth of knowledge and skills, but also wisdom and virtues.”

Apart from freshmen enrolling in its full-time Bachelor’s degree and higher diploma programmes, PolyU also welcomed all new students pursuing their studies at different levels and modes. In an overview, the PolyU family has welcomed some 16,400 students this year, with about 6,300 students admitted to the units under the PolyU-affiliated College of Professional and Continuing Education.
