Sichuan Base

The Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR) was jointly set up by PolyU and Sichuan University in response to the 8-magnitude earthquake in Sichuan on 12 May 2008.

The Institute is the first of its kind on the Chinese Mainland to specialise in disaster preparedness, disaster risk reduction and disaster reconstruction. It was officially opened in 2013 with RMB 200 million in funding support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club.  The Institute is located in the Jiangan District of the Sichuan University campus in Chengdu, occupying a net floor area of 20,000 square metres.

The multi-disciplinary resources of the two universities have enabled IDMR to develop a joint PhD programme, four impactful master programmes, and a range of undergraduate subjects to nurture top-notch talent. With its expertise and rich experience, IDMR is also actively involved in supporting the reconstruction of post-earthquake areas.
