As one of the oldest texts in the world and the only one that is still in use, Chinese characters have been developed for more than 3000 years, from oracle bone scripts to bronze inscriptions, followed by large and small seal scripts, then clerical and regular scripts. Chinese characters were reshaped gradually during these stages, and became what we see and use today.
This workshop will introduce the basic knowledge of Chinese characters, including:
- The original form of some typical characters.
- How they developed from pictography to complicated forms.
In this workshop, you are going to:
- Use analytical skills to guess the meaning of some interesting characters.
- Apply the skills to your daily life, learn more characters by yourself.
