We offer the following postgraduate taught programmes:


Entrance Requirements

A Bachelor's degree with Honours in civil engineering or an equivalent qualification.

If you are not a native speaker of English, and your Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification is awarded by institutions where the medium of instruction is not English, you are expected to fulfil the following minimum English language requirement for admission purpose, unless otherwise specified by individual programmes concerned:

- A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 for the Internet-based test or 550 for the paper-based test;


- An overall Band Score of at least 6 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

* For applicants with qualifications obtained in Taiwan, a pass in the High-Intermediate level or above in GEPT may be considered as having fulfilled the English language requirements. Application Procedures

Our programme has one intake of full-time and part-time modes every year, which commences in September. Generally, interview is not needed for most applicants, and decisions are usually made according to the information provided in the submitted online application as well as the supporting documents. Applications will be processed in batches after each admission deadline. The admission results will be announced through the online application system, and it usually takes approximately 4-6 weeks to process the application. A complete submission includes:


  1. Successful submission of online application
  2. Application fee
  3. Academic transcript(s) of undergraduate study
  4. Official TOEFL or IELTS score report if applicable
  5. A copy of graduation certificate of undergraduate study for those who had graduated



  • Copies of professional qualifications
  • A personal statement of 200-400 words (recommended)
  • Recommendation letters (optional)

Note: Any certificate/document that is not in English should be accompanied with an official certified translation.

Applications for entry 2018/19 will be invited from  26 September 2017 and application deadline set to 30 April 2018. You may access the online application system at here.

We recommend non-local applicants to apply as early as possible to allow sufficient time for personal preparations (eg. financial preparation, visa application, etc).

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Financial Aid

Students who have the right of abode in Hong Kong or the right to land in Hong Kong, or students who are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction, or have resided or have had their home in Hong Kong continuously for three complete years before commencing their studies at PolyU (i.e. local students, this does not cover those holding student visas), are eligible to apply for the Government Non-means Tested Loan Scheme. The Scheme offers interest-bearing loans to eligible students for covering tuition fees. An administrative fee and a relatively higher interest rate are charged. Applications are non-means tested, which means that there is no assessment of family's income and assets. For details of the Scheme, please refer to the Government's website at www.sfaa.gov.hk/eng/schemes/nlss.htm.

Also, some of the modules in the programme have been approved for the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) of the Government, and the eligible students enrolled on the approved modules may apply for reimbursement. You may refer to www.sfaa.gov.hk/cef/ for information.


To attract applicants with excellent academic background to join programmes of the Postgraduate Scheme in Construction and Environment, applicants with outstanding academic results from a reputable university are invited to submit application for consideration of award of the Entry Scholarship.

Scholarship Amount

Cover the tuition fees for the study of an MSc programme of the Postgraduate Scheme in Construction and Environment, and will be tenable for no more than one academic year; plus a subsistence allowance of HK50,000 for one academic year may be provided to each recipient, if he/she studies full-time without full-time employment.

Criteria for Award
Possess an outstanding academic results from a reputable university.
