Programme Introduction

Environmental and Occupational Safety & Health (EOSH) are two contemporary areas in Hong Kong. Through studying the Programme, students can acquire effective approaches to identify, develop and apply good EOSH professional practices and technologies based on sound scientific principles and legislative requirements. This EOSH programme serves to train competent environmental and occupational safety & health graduates for the demand in these fields. It is the only undergraduate degree programme in safety and health for the construction industry offered by local universities. 

Programme Features

  • Two years of intensive study to complete the whole programme;
  • A unique programme which combines the field of environmental and occupational safety & health;
  • Summer job placement in industrial or other occupational environment for gaining practical work experience locally;
  • Close supervision of students by experienced academics and field experts during summer job placement;
  • Insightful work-orientated seminars by professional and experienced practitioners;
  • Possibility of overseas study tour for students to extend their international exposure, particularly in areas of environment and occupational safety & health;
  • Recognition by the Labour Department and professional body. 

Programme Objectives and Aims

Objectives

The programme is designed to respond to the impact of increasing local occupational & safety and health problems and environmental legislation on the working environment of organizations, and the need for graduates who have the skills to work in those focused professional areas. 

Aims

The programme aims to equip graduates with professional skills that they can apply in the work environment. The programme is application-oriented and will enable graduates to apply their knowledge in environment, safety and health to different work situations. Graduates of the programme will be able to satisfy the requirements of relevant professional qualifications, both local and overseas.

Entrance Requirements

The minimum requirement is a Higher Diploma or an Associate Degree in Science/ Engineering / Health or a relevant discipline awarded by a recognised institution.

Professional Recognition

On completion of the EOSH Programme, graduates can fulfill the academic requirements for registration as Registered Safety Officers (RSO) with the Labour Department of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR and as Environmental Officers (EO) for government contracts. In addition, graduates can obtain memberships of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health of the United Kingdom (IOSH). 

Career Prospects

Graduates can have a wide spectrum of career opportunities in their study areas in environment and safety & health in public sector, public utility, construction companies, consultants, non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) and other private agents.
