Media Interview on Research Impact Fund
Ten PolyU-led projects get one-third of the new Research Impact Fund allocations
At a media briefing on 24 January 2019, Ir Prof. Alex Wai, Vice President (Research Development, PolyU) shared that 10 project proposals led by PolyU were granted fundings though the inaugural Research Impact Fund (RIF) by the Research Grants Council, at a total of over $65 million. That equals to one-third of the RIF, in terms of both funding and number of projects. Prof. Wai emphasized that it would facilitate PolyU’s transfer of advanced knowledge to the society.
The 10 projects cover areas related to the development of smart city and human well-being/health. Prof. Yiqing Ni (Professor of CEE) will lead one of the projects with a funding of nearly $5.9 million on enhancing safety, punctuality and ride comfort of railway transportation.
Among ten PolyU-led RIF projects, CEE got four projects funded by RGC for the Research Impact Fund 2018/19 at a total amount of about HK$25.9 million.
