Dr Guan Lin, Research Assistant Professor of CEE, won the IIFC 2018 Runner-up Award for Best PhD Thesis at the 9th International Conference on FRP Composites in Civil Engineering (CICE 2018) in Paris, France on 17-19 July 2018. The Award included a cash prize of US$500, an honorarium of US$1,500 covering his travel costs to attend the conference, and a complementary IIFC membership for two years. His thesis’s title was “Seismic performance of FRP-confined RC columns: Stress-strain models and numerical simulation”. He was supervised by Prof. J.G. Teng, Chair Professor of Structural Engineering of CEE.

The International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) was established in March 2003, with the aim to advance the understanding and the application of FRP composites in civil infrastructure, at the service of the engineering profession and society. The IIFC Best PhD Thesis Award was established by the IIFC Council in 2016.
