CEE Summer Programme 2018
On 18 July 2018, CEE Summer Programme 2018 was successfully held between ten teams from different secondary schools. This year’s programme comprised an introduction to CEE programmes by Ir C.L. Kwanopening, Campus Mini Tour to House of Innovation, laboratory tours and the paper structure competition.
Ten teams, each with four members per team, were given two hours to fabricate a paper structure. The paper structures were judged against maximum loading, lightness, and aesthetic and innovation. The competition provided an opportunity for youth to develop their analytical and communication skills and to acquire structural engineering knowledge through building and testing a paper structure.
We were surprised by the participants’ creativity and were delighted to see them putting in a lot of effort in design and fabrication. To close the event, Prof. C.S. Poon, Associate Head of CEE, congratulated the participants on their outstanding performance and presented prizes to the winners.
We would like to express our gratitude to colleagues and student helpers for guiding the laboratory tours and assistance in the loading test of the paper structure competition. We would also like to acknowledge the Judging Panel formed by academic staff, administrative staff, research staff and alumni for the assessment on the paper structures.
