15 Apr 2025
On April 15, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the TRS project team and NVIDIA Hong Kong Ltd. held the third meeting at HK PolyU to discuss about collaboration opportunities in AI-driven meteorological forecasting and other engineering applications.
First, representatives from both sides introduced their teams. Dr. Charles Cheung from NVIDIA outlined the meeting objectives and the potential for collaboration through NVIDIA's AI platforms. Dr. E Deng from PolyU presented the TRS project and potential cooperation with NVIDIA in meteorological forecasting and other engineering applications.
Next, NVIDIA representatives delivered technical presentations. Dr. Ivan Au-Yeung talked about the role of AI in engineering simulations. He also introduced NVIDIA Physics-NeMo and its applications, such as Graph Neural Networks (GNN) for weather forecasting. Mr. Cliff Ho presented NVIDIA Omniverse’s application in digital twins, highlighting its advantages in industrial digitalization and real-time engineering workflows.
Thereafter, researchers from the TRS team provided updates on their ongoing work, including the development of backend database and frontend UI of the meteorological platform, and advancements in 3D data visualization. They also touched on the progress of DeepSeek's local database integration and the design of the Global-Hong Kong urban weather forecast model.
Two teams then engaged in discussions on future collaboration priorities, covering strategies for data integration between TRS and NVIDIA tools, AI model training for typhoon visualization and agency, and comparative analyses between Physics-NeMo and traditional models like PINN.
Finally, both parties outlined the way forward, including the development of a Hong Kong-specific meteorological analysis model, integration of meteorological data with NVIDIA’s AI tools, and the training and optimization of weather prediction models on NVIDIA servers.
