The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering successfully hosted the 2024 International Workshop on Intelligent Tropical-Storm-Resilient Systems for Coastal Cities on August 25, 2024. This workshop served as a significant academic platform dedicated to advancing urban resilience against tropical storms.
Co-chaired by Prof. Xiao-Wei Deng, Prof. Meng-Qian Lu and Prof. You Dong from The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the workshop is a key component of a five-year project funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council Theme-based Research Scheme.
The one-day event gathered over 50 experts, scholars, and industry leaders from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and other regions. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni extended a warm welcome to the participants of the workshop in the opening ceremony.
The workshop featured five keynote presentations in the morning session. The keynote speakers were Prof. Sun-Wei Li from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Dr. E Deng from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr. Muhammad Sajjad from Hong Kong Baptist University, Dr. Zheng-Wei Chen from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Prof. Xi-Zhong Cui from Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen.
The afternoon session of the workshop includes technical presentations about current progress and future work of the four tasks in the project, and detailed discussions.
