Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering

The programme provides the option for students to engage either in the full-time or part-time study mode.

  • Full-time students normally take five subjects per semester and the normal study period is 1 year.
  • Part-time students normally take two to three subjects per semester and the normal study period is 2.5 years.

In general, each subject requires a 3-hour class per week over a 13-week semester and subjects are offered on weekday evenings.

Award Requirements

Students need to obtain 30 credits for graduation. The curriculum for each award is listed as follows.

For Award Title: Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering

Students must complete:

(i)     1 Compulsory Subject:

  • Research Methods & Biostatistics

(ii)    9 Elective Subjects (or 6 Elective Subjects plus Dissertation)

For Award Title: Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (Rehabilitation Engineering) 

Students must complete:

(i)     5 Compulsory Subjects:

  • Digital Design and Manufacturing for Biomedical Engineering
  • Clinical and Sports Biomechanics
  • Advanced Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Modern Rehabilitation Engineering and Robotics
  • Research Methods & Biostatistics

(ii)    5 Elective Subjects (or 2 Elective Subjects plus Dissertation)

For Award Title: Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (Digital Health) 

Students must complete:

(i)     5 Compulsory Subjects:

  • Molecular and Functional Imaging: From Body System to Molecules
  • Biomedical Microdevices
  • Wearable Technology for Digital Health 
  • Medical Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics 
  • Research Methods & Biostatistics

(ii)    5 Elective Subjects (or 2 Elective Subjects plus Dissertation)
