Flexible arrangement for teaching staff in lecture settings in Semester Two of 2022/23

19 Dec 2022

To: All staff and students

Dear Colleagues and Students

The current Semester is drawing to an end and Semester Two of 2022/23 will commence on 9 January 2023. Please note again that learning and teaching activities for undergraduate programmes will continue to be delivered face-to-face (f2f) in Semester Two and that, for taught postgraduate programmes, departments are given the flexibility to conduct their learning and teaching activities in f2f or hybrid mode. For details, please refer to the University Notice to students of 4 November 2022.

In relation to the above, I would like to update you that the COVID-19 Rapid Response Taskforce (CRRT), with reference to the latest government policy, has decided to relax the mask-on requirement for teaching staff delivering teaching in lecture settings from the start of Semester Two. Hence, teaching staff speaking at a lectern of at least 1.5 metres from students will not be required to wear a mask. This flexible arrangement applies to lecture forms of teaching only.

To protect teaching staff and students, the University will provide microphone caps and alcohol wipes for use in general teaching rooms and lecture theatres.

Best wishes for a good Christmas and New Year break!

Yours sincerely

Professor Kwok-yin Wong
Vice President (Education)
