Learning Outside the Classroom through Volunteering BASPSE Student Volunteers in a Public Event on B Corporation
Active Community Engagement
Nine PolyU students, including seven Year 1 and 2 students from APSS's BASPSE (Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Policy and Social Entrepreneurship) programme participated in a public event that aims to promote a new model of organization. This innovative model, popularly known as B Corporation, accounts for the interests of the community, employees, customers, and the environment in conducting business.
Our student volunteers helped set up a pop-up stall at the event and enthusiastically promoted the concept of B Corporation to the general public. The event, which ran from 9th to 12th December 2021, was held in the Central Market. It was organised in collaboration with B Lab, a non-profit organisation that certifies organisations as B Corporation.
APSS students supported the event by sharing how businesses can serve as a force for good.
Commendations
Dr Raymond TAM, Programme Leader of BASPSE, opined, "Our undergraduate students have been encouraged to apply what they have learnt from the classroom into real-life situations. Students who joined this volunteer work not only learnt how to communicate effectively with people on the street, but also acquired a new perspective on the concept of social entrepreneurship.”
Ms Yetty OR, Executive Director of B Lab (HK & Macau), sent our students a heartfelt appreciation for their enthusiastic promotion of the idea and value of B Corporation to the general public in Hong Kong. It is hoped that more and more people will resonate with this value, and that this movement will help ultimately strike a balance between purpose and profit for the entire business ecosystem to benefit all stakeholders.
