    Yang Xiaoqi’s research interests include nonlinear optimization, multiobjective optimization, and variational analysis. He has worked on projects such as generalized Lagrangian augmented duality theory, exact penalty function theory, vector variational inequality, generalized polyhedron theory, and first-order and second-order optimality conditions. He has also carried out some application oriented research projects, such as bi-criteria portfolio models with an L-infinity risk criterion and lower order penalty function methods for American option pricing theory.

    Dr. Xin Guo got his PhD degree in City University of Hong Kong in 2011, where he then worked for one year and a half as research fellow. From 2013, he worked as a postdoctoral associate in Duke University for one and a half years before joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014. His research interests include statistical learning theory, computational topology, and mathematical biology.

    Prof. Xiaojun Chen’s current research interests include nonsmooth nonconvex optimization, stochastic equilibrium problems and numerical approximation methods for system of nonlinear equations with important applications in engineering and economics. She has published over 80 papers in major international journals in operations research and computational mathematics. Prof. Chen has won many grants as a principal investigator from several government funding agencies and presented plenary and semi-plenary talks in several important international conferences. She serves in the editorial boards of six mathematical journals including SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis.

    Prof. Xun Li received his PhD degree in 2000 from Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and he stayed with the same department as a postdoctoral research fellow until 2001. From 2001 to 2003, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Mathematical and Computational Finance Laboratory at University of Calgary. From 2003 to 2007, he was a visiting fellow in the Department of Mathematics at the National University of Singapore. He joined AMA, PolyU as an Assistant Professor in 2007 and is currently an Associate Professor. His main research areas are applied probability and stochastic control with financial applications, and he has published in journals such as SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, Annals of Applied Probability, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Automatica, Mathematical Finance and Annals of Finance.

    Professor Xingqiu Zhao obtained her PhD in Statistics from McMaster University in 2008. She joined AMA, PolyU as an Assistant Professor in 2008 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. Dr. Zhao’s main research interests include survival analysis, panel count data, longitudinal data analysis, recurrent event data, interval-censored failure time data, analysis of high-dimensional survival models, semiparametric and nonparametric methods, large sample theory and applications in survival models.

    Dr. Jintao Cui received his PhD degree in Mathematics from the Louisiana State University in 2010. After graduation he spent two years as a postdoctoral research associate at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications at the University of Minnesota. He then served as an Assistant Professor at Department of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Arkansas at Little Rock before he joined AMA, PolyU in 2014. Dr. Cui’s research interests include numerical analysis, computational mathematics, and finite element methods.

    Dr. He is a mathematical epidemiologist. His expertise is in using advanced mathematics and statistics to help improving our understanding of the spread of virus in human population. His work has been reported by many media organizations, including New York Times and Hong Kong Daily News. He obtained PhD in mathematics in Canada, and had work experience in United States and Canada. He joined AMA, PolyU in 2012.

    Dr. James Huang is an Associate Professor at AMA, PolyU. He received his BSc in Operational Research and Control Theory, and MSc in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics from Shandong University. Then, he obtained his PhD degree in Mathematical Finance from University of Alberta, Canada. After that, Dr. Huang worked in AMA from 2007. His main research interests include the stochastic control and dynamic optimization, stochastic process and its statistical inference, and the related applications in operational research, economics and finance. He has taught several Master-courses in investment science, insurance studies, financial analysis as well as risk management.

    Dr. Catherine Liu is an Associate Professor of Statistics in AMA, PolyU and an Honorary Assistant Professor of Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. She received her Ph.D. in Statistics at The University of Hong Kong in 2008 and thereafter the Intramural Research Trainee Award Postdoctoral Fellow in National Institute of Health (NIH), USA. Dr. Liu jointed AMA/PolyU in 2010. Her research interests include developing data driven statistical theory and methodology as well as application in biomedical study. Dr. Liu has taught AMA528 Probability and Stochastic Models and AMA514 Applied Linear Models.

    Dr. Pong is currently an Associate Professor at AMA. He received his PhD degree from the Department of Mathematics at University of Washington in 2011. Before joining PolyU in August 2014, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Department of Combinatorics and Optimization at University of Waterloo from 2011 to 2013, and later, a PIMS postdoctoral fellow in Department of Computer Science at University of British Columbia. His research interest includes continuous optimization.

    Dr. Qiao received his PhD degree in the Department of Mathematics at Hong Kong Baptist University. Before joining AMA, PolyU as an Assistant Professor in 2011, he was a postdoctoral research associate in North Carolina State University in 2006-2008 and was an assistant professor in Hong Kong Baptist University in 2008-2011. As an applied mathematician, his research interests are numerical analysis and scientific computing.

    Dr. Wong is an Assistant Professor at AMA. He received his Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Master of Philosophy degrees from the University of Hong Kong in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He received his PhD degree in Biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. His research interest includes survival analysis, missing-data analysis, semiparametric methods, variable selection, and statistical genomics.

    Dr. Xu’s general research interests include mathematical finance. He has recently been focusing on quantitative behavioral financial modeling including portfolio choice and option pricing problems. Dr. Xu teaches AMA535 Mathematics of Derivative Pricing for our MSc program.

    Dr. Guofeng Zhang has recently been working in the field of quantum control, namely, how to use mathematical control theory and optimization methods to analyze and design dynamical systems whose behaviors are governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. By engineering quantum systems in a systematic and optimal way it is hoped that quantum technology can be created and practiced. He has taught the subject AMA523 Optimal Control with Management Science Applications.

  • Mr. Tak Lee
    Mr. Tak Lee


    Mr. Tak LEE is currently the general manager of Munich Re Hong Kong. In 1991, he received Bachelor of Mathematics with double Honor Degree from University of Waterloo, Canada, majoring in Actuarial Science and Computer Science. In the past 24 years, he has accumulated abundant experience in the actuarial field and has well established by working in internationally well-known insurance companies acting in the various senior roles, including Chief Actuary and now general manager. He has been a fellow member of Society of Actuaries and Life Insurance Management Institute for more than 16 years.
