PGworkshop in HKUST: East Asian Postgraduate Workshop on ……

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Clear Water Bay, Kowloon, Hong Kong, will hold a international postgraduate workshop titled “East Asian Postgraduate Workshop on Soft Matter” during the period of April 28-30, 2010. The website is http://pgworkshop.ust.hk/

The objective of the workshop is to setup a platform unique for postgraduates or postdocs involving in soft matter research, particularly in East Asian region including Hong Kong, Mainland, Japan, Korea, Taiwan,
Singapore, to share their most recent work and research experience, and most importantly to seize the rare chance of establishing international collaborative projects initiating at a postgraduate level. Since the aim
of the workshop is to explore the interdisciplinary nature of soft matter research, the topics to be presented will cover aspects which span over theory, simulation, experiments and application. The topics will include but not limited to: (1) Complex fluids; (2) colloids and interface; (3) polymers, gels and granular materials; (4) biological materials; (5) soft matter device and applications (e.g. MEMS or microfluidics).

We believe that, this is the first try to hold such kind of workshop around the world, which puts focus upon postgraduate students. Such pioneering workshop will bring not only attention in the academic circle
of East Asian region, but most importantly, it provides an unprecedented opportunity for postgraduates to take the podium themselves in a research conference.
