The time of Conference: September 27--30, 1999.
Deadline for submitting paper to special issue of AOR: November 30,
1999.
PROGRAM:
The conference will held from September 27, 1999 (Monday) through to
September
30, 1999 (Thursday). The academic program consists of invited talks,
session talks,
contributed talks and posters. Each invited speaker will give a 30
minute plenary talk;
each other talk will take 25 minutes or 15 minutes, including time
for discussion.
ABSTRACTS:
All speakers, including invited speakers, should submit an abstract
of LaTex file,
not exceed one page, via e-mail to wysun@pine.njnu.edu.cn before July
30, 1999.
The hard copy of the abstract will also be accepted, and should be
sent before
the same time deadline to Ms. Wang Wei, secretary of conference office,
99'ONA.
Notification of acceptance of contributed talks will be sent by August
20, 1999.

SESSION ORGANIZATION:
The organizing committee has invited some people to organize sessions.
Other people
who wish to organize sessions are welcomed and should contact Zhongzhi
Bai
(bzz@lsec.cc.ac.cn, Numerical Algebra) and Qin Ni (niqfs@dns.nuaa.edu.cn,
Optimization).
Each session should consists three talks, and the topics of which should
be closely related.
Session organizers are requested to provide the corresponding organizers
with titles
of sessions, names and organizations of session speakers. Abstracts
for each session
had better be submitted together.
SPECIAL ISSUE:
A special volume of the Annals of Operations Research (AOR) is planned
for this conference.
Participants of this conference are encouraged to submit the papers
of their talks.
All submission will undergo a thorough refereeing procedure. More details
will be
announced later.
REGISTRATION:
The dead line of registration is July 30, 1999. Full registration fee
is
300US$ which covers registration, three meals per day during the conference,
coffee break, abstract collection, one reception, one banquet, half-day
city tour.
The full registration fee for student is 150US$. The lated registration
after July 30
or registration at the conference site is accepted which are 340US$
for full registration and 170US$ for student respectively. People who
want
to take care the meals theirselves may pay basic registration fee only,
which is 200US$ for general participant and 100US$ for student.

ACCOMMODATION:
As above indicated that the conference provides three meals per day
for
each participant during the conference. The conference hotel is Nan
Shan Guest Hotel
which is situated in the campus of Nanjing Normal University. Room
rates are
as follows:
* Standard room with two beds:
25US$ per room per night for both single/twin.
* Common room with two beds:
15US$ per room per night for both single/twin.
All rooms have private bathrooms, TV and telephone. Rooms may be booked

SOCIAL EVENTS:
* A half-day city tour:
Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province, has been known as "Ancient
Metropolis
of Six Dynasties". A half-day city tour will be arranged in the afternoon
of
September 29, 1999 (Wednesday). The initial itinerary includes Zhong
Shan
(Sun Yat-sen) Mausoleum, Ming Dynasty King's Mausoleum, Ling Gu Tower,
Confucius Temple of Fuzimiao.
* Self-paid tour:
The Yellow Mountain is one of the most attractive scenic points. It
is famous
for wonderful rocks, vigorous pines, phantasmagoric clouds which
is called as "Three Strange Sights". A post-conference tour to Yellow
Mountain
(three-day tour) will be held from October 1 (Friday) through to October
3 (Sunday).
Yellow Mountain is one of the most attractive scenic points in China.
The initial price
is about 160US$ per person including two-night living in mountain hotel,
three-day
meals, cable-car, guiding-tour service. If you would like to participate
in the self-paid tour to Yellow Mountain, please reserve in advance
and
pay 160US$ to her before September 10, 1999.

HOW TO TRAVEL TO NANJING:
Nanjing is a historical and modernized city which is situated by the
Yangtze River.
As to travel to Nanjing, there are three ways as follows.
1) Your city -- Beijing -- Nanjing
Every day there are many flights from Beijing to
Nanjing which take two hours.
2) Your city -- Hong Kong -- Nanjing
Everyday there are some flights flying directly
between Hong Kong and Nanjing
which take two hours.
3) Your city -- Shanghai -- Nanjing
There are also several flights from Shanghai to
Nanjing which take 45 minutes.
Since Shanghai is near to Nanjing, when you arrive
at Shanghai Airport,
you also can take bus to Nanjing just at the exit
of Shanghai Airport which takes
about three and half hours. Note the start time
of bus to Nanjing is 13:00, 15:00
and 17:00. The terminus is YA HUA Hotel near to
Nanjing Normal University
(five minutes by walk). For those foreigners who
are first time to China,
we suggest you always take airplane.
Maybe, in some foreign travel agencies you cannot
reserve the ticket of Shanghai
to Nanjing. If so, you had better take one of the
first two schemes.
As soon as you buy your air-ticket, please let us know the time you
will arrive at
Nanjing Airport and your flight number. We will pick you up at the
Exit of
Nanjing Airport. In case of you don't meet us at the exit of Nanjing
Airport,
please take the Airport Bus (3.0US$) to the final stop -- XIN HAN DA
SHA
(in No. 180, Han Kou Road), and then take Taxi (1.5 US$) to
Nanjing Normal University, Nan Shan Guest Hotel.
TEMPERATURE:
The temperature of Nanjing at the end of September is about 25--30 Centigrade.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:
1999 Nanjing Award in Optimization and Numerical Algebra for Young Researcher
The applicant should be either a current student, or a researcher who
obtained
his/her last degree on or after January 1, 1994, or any person born
on or after
January 1, 1968. Only one paper can be submitted for consideration
and it must
also be submitted for presentation at the conference. The paper can
be co-authored
but the applicant must be the major contributor (significantly more
than 50%).
The award selection committee consists of

Applicants should send their application to all three of the award selection
committee members by e-mail on or before July 30. The application
(an ASCII-file) should include a short curriculum vitae and a detailed
abstract
of the paper (no more than 3 pages). The technical part of the application
should be in plain-TeX, LaTeX or should be a separate postscript file,
as should be the full paper which may be requested if the selection
committee
feels necessary in making its judgement.
The committee will shortlist about three papers for final competition
and
notify the candidates around September 10. The three selected papers
will be presented in a special session in the conference. The award
will
be announced at the conference banquet.
