New University Student Record System Wins Best Green ICT Silver Award
 

 

Big congrats to the joint project team of ITS and AS!

The redevelopment project of the University’s Student Record System has won the Best Green ICT Silver Award in the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2013! The project was started off in 2008, implemented by phases, and successfully launched in 2012.

Following the University’s strong commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, the joint project team sees this in-house redevelopment project in support of the new 334 academic structure a Green Opportunity. The project has accomplished the following major green features:

The Hong Kong ICT Award was established in 2006 under a collaborative effort amongst the industry, the academia and the Government. The Awards aim at building a large scale and internationally recognised branding of ICT awards of Hong Kong.

HSEO’s Website Wins Gold Award in Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme
 

 

Here comes another award-winning project! The newly-developed website of the University’s Health, Safety and Environment Office (HSEO) has won the Gold Award in the first Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme jointly organized by the Office of Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC).

The Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme is open to all local companies, non-government/quasi-government organizations, and academia, with the aim to encourage adoption of web accessibility to facilitate access to online information and services by all segments of the community including persons with disabilities.

The award was presented to Mr Nicholas Yang, Executive Vice President (EVP) and Mr Gerrit Bahlman, Director of IT at the awards presentation ceremony held on 15 April 2013.

The awarded website (www.polyu.edu.hk/hseo) is a joint effort of HSEO and the Web Development Team of ITS. The key web accessibility features that have been incorporated include:

 

 

The ITS Web Development Team provides website consultancy and development services to departments / offices on a charged basis. Through this project, the team has gained practical experiences in implementing web accessibility-enabled website. These experiences will be consolidated into a Web Accessibility Guideline to be published soon for reference by the PolyU community.
