The Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) are collaborating on a research initiative focused on the application of innovative technologies in elite windsurfing, starting from 2026.

By integrating expertise in engineering, sensing technologies, and sports science, the collaboration seeks to advance data-informed approaches to athlete monitoring and performance support. The partnership also fosters knowledge exchange between academia and the high-performance sports sector, contributing to the continued development of sports technology and sports science in Hong Kong.

Update — 9 October 2026

The collaboration was featured in Issue 9 of PolyU’s Innovation Digest (August 2026). The university’s report identifies Prof. Li-Ta Hsu as supervisor of the Smart Sports Monitoring System for Elite Windsurfing project, running from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2028 under the Sports Science and Research Funding Scheme.
