Dr WAN received his B.A. in philosophy at UCLA. After graduating from UCLA, he came back to Hong Kong to continue his study in Chinese philosophy at CUHK. He then received his MPhil and PhD there.

The areas of his academic interest are comparative religious studies, Neo-Confucianism, the theory of self-cultivation, metaphysics, and ethical issues.
