Objectives
目的
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's
General Education Programme aims at the promotion of all-round
education for students across the University. The subjects
are designed to broaden the horizon of students so that they
can meaningfully relate their professional study to different
contexts, be equipped with the ability to make sound judgement,
and have a basic knowledge of the nation and society.
香港理工大學推行通識教育課程,目的是希望藉此擴闊同學的視野,訓練他們的獨立思考能力,使他們能有敏銳的社會觸覺,能對我們的國家和我們所生活的社會,有最基本的認識。香港理工大學的通識教育課程具有本身的特色,一方面與主修課程相輔相成,另一方面強調應用與興趣兼重。
General
Education Requirement
-
For intake cohorts before 2010/11,
a 3-tier grading system of "Pass with Merit",
"Pass" and "Fail" will be adopted and
grades obtained in GE subjects are
not included in the calculation of the Grade Point
Average (GPA).

With effect from the 2010/11 intake
cohort, a 9 alpha grading system of A+, A, B+, B,
C+, C, D+, D and F will be used in the calculation
of the GPA.

通識教育課程之管理
The Committee on General and
Language Education oversees and coordinates the credit-bearing
General Education requirements and provisions across the University.
Individual GE subjects are administered and offered by respective
contributing Faculties / Schools / academic Departments /
Centres of the University.
General
Education (GE) Subject Information
- Who are required
to take GE subjects?
- If
you are a Full-time UGC-funded degree student,
you are required to pass two 2-credit (or 3-credit piloting) GE subjects from
two different categories (one from China Studies and one
from Broadening).

If you are a Full-time UGC-funded sub-degree student,
you are required to pass one 2-credit (or 3-credit piloting) GE subject from
the China Studies category.

If you are a Full-time UGC-funded/self-financed
articulation Bachelor's degree student admitted
in 2008-09 and after, you are required to take one 2-credit
(or 3-credit piloting) GE subject. Whether this GE subject would be a Broadening
or China Studies category subject will be subject to the
decision of the programme offering department with reference
to the background of students concerned.

If you are enrolled in a full-time self-financed/part-time
programme, you are required to take GE subjects
to fulfill your graduation requirement, please contact
your programme offering department for details.

- You
can take GE subjects in any semesters during your study
unless otherwise specified by your department/definitive
programme document.
