PolyU innovations shine in Geneva’s Invention Expo
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has recently been awarded record number of top prizes in the International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products held earlier in Geneva. On top of winning the Prize of the State of Geneva (one of the top five prizes) and two Grand Awards, PolyU researchers won six Gold Medals and a Silver Medal.

HSBC Insurance and PolyU join hands to build green campus
Under the “Let’s Travel Green” campaign launched by HSBC Insurance, the “Eco-blocks for Eco-schools” programme, a joint initiative of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and HSBC Insurance, has improved the environment and air quality of three schools with the use of the PolyU-developed Eco-blocks since July 2008. To encourage more local schools to participate in this programme, HSBC Insurance will also launch an art competition entitled “Go Green @ School” in the second quarter of 2009.

Pilot version of public transport route search service launched
A pilot version of the “Public Transport Enquiry Service” (PTES) was launched by the Transport Department today (28 April). This new service will provide users with free public transport point-to-point route searches on the Internet.

Working in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Highways Department, researchers of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) are taking active steps to ease traffic noise generated from frictional contact between vehicle tyre and road surface.

PolyU award-winning researches help withstand natural disasters
Civil and structural engineering experts of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) were recently granted two first-honour research awards in the technology category by the Technology Development Centre, established under the Ministry of Education in Mainland China. (教育部科技發展中心 -- 二零零八年度高等學校科學研究優秀成果獎﹝科學技術﹞自然科學一等獎).
