Begin BOT in Jan 2014!

Are you using LEARN@PolyU (理學網) but want to explore more of its potential?

Do you want to create more engaging online activities for students? Communicate in different ways with your class? Try using social media?

Starting 6 January 2014, our new Becoming an Online Teacher (BOT) Certificate course provides a blended learning opportunity that will have a direct impact on your teaching. The three modules are practical, applied and focused on your experiences at PolyU.

You will be guided and supported through:

  • the experience of being an online learner
  • planning and developing online learning activities in Blackboard
  • using and evaluating online activities with your own students

Each module has approximately 12 study hours. There are only 2 to 3 compulsory face-to-face hours in each module. The rest of your study is online and flexible, so you can study when and where you want.

The three modules will run every semester. You can do them all in one semester or take them over two consecutive semesters. Note that Module 3 requires you to have an active class of students to work with.

To receive the BOT certificate you must attend all face-to-face sessions and complete a range of online tasks.

To join the BOT course you must be:

  • full-time staff with regular teaching responsibilities
  • have attended an introductory workshop on Blackboard/ LEARN@PolyU (理學網) and/or already be familiar with its basic interface and features

The enrolment deadline to join the first BOT course is Thursday 2 January 2014

Since the teaching timetable for Semester 1 (2014 – 2015) is not yet released, is it possible for me to enroll and then withdraw from the course as if I find that there are clashes of my classes? Thanks
