The mission of our Department is to facilitate learning through excellent teaching and research in Applied Mathematics with leading expertise in optimization, optimal control, applied statistics and actuarial science, financial mathematics and engineering mathematics.

Teaching         

(i)        To provide quality teaching to students.
(ii)       To equip students with sound mathematical, analytical and communication skills for different employment niches.

Research         
(i)        To become a major centre of excellence in applied mathematics in Hong Kong.
(ii)       To provide students with opportunities for original research and scholarship.
(iii)      To strengthen and promote joint research among Departments of the university.
