Types of Scholarships


PolyU recognizes the academic and/or non-academic achievements of our students through offering different types of scholarships to our students. Normally, these scholarships are awarded to current students pursuing full-time undergraduate programmes leading to PolyU awards (i.e. HKCC, SPEED, PolyU inbound exchange students are not eligible). 

A) Entry Scholarships for Prospective Students (awarded on the basis of admission results)

PolyU offers entry scholarships to students pursuing different programmes during admission. Please refer to the table below for further information.

Entry scholarships are available for outstanding admittees based on academic or non-academic achievements.  Please visit Study@PolyU for details and further enquiries on scholarships offered to local (HKDSE) and international students as well as 内地应届高考生

Part-time undergraduate programmes

Full-time and part-time taught postgraduate programmes

B) Post-entry Scholarships (awarded on the basis of PolyU academic results)

a) Post-entry Scholarships/ Prizes awarded on the basis of academic and/or non-academic achievements

From time to time, a number of private organizations, firms, professional bodies and individuals donate to PolyU scholarships and prizes which are awarded to students with outstanding academic and/or non-academic achievements (such as achievements in extra-curricular activities and community services) during their studies at PolyU.  Most of the scholarship/prize awardees are nominated by Heads of Academic Departments.  However, a limited number of scholarships/prizes are open to application by students.  Please refer to the partPost-entry Scholarships available for PolyU Studentsfor details.

b) Scholarships for Overseas Exchange/Internship

Some scholarships are made available to full-time current students to pursue one-semester or one-year overseas studies.  Please click here for details. Some scholarships may specifically require the applicants/nominees to have the TOEFL or IELTS results for the Donor's consideration of the applications/nominations.  Students are encouraged to attempt the TOEFL or IELTS examination first if you are interested in these scholarships.

PolyU also offers other sponsorship/subsidy/financial assistance to support the living costs of full-time UGC-funded undergraduate students during exchange studies overseas/in the Chinese mainland. Please visit the website of Chinese Mainland and Affairs Office (CMAO) and International Affairs Office (IAO) [refer to the part "Financial Assistance"] for further details. If you will take on an offshore WIE placement, you can visit Office of Careers and Placement Services (CAPS) for details of Offshore Work-Integrated Education Sponsorship (OWS).

c) Service-Learning Scholarships

The University has set up a Service-Learning Scholarship Scheme under the administration of the Office of Service Learning (OSL). Each Service-Learning Scholarship is HK$6,000/HK$8,000 per student. The selected awardees will be required to fulfill all requirements, such as attending leadership training, serving as student leaders, submitting logbook and journal etc., in order to receive the scholarship.                          Outstanding Students Award Scheme

2016 Outstanding Student Awards Presentation Ceremony

PolyU organizes the Outstanding Students Award Scheme annually to award full-time final-year students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits during their studies. Each academic department under the purview of a faculty is to select an outstanding student to receive the “Outstanding Student Award of Department”. These outstanding students of academic department under the purview of the same faculty will then compete with each other for the “Outstanding Student Award of Faculty”, whilst the outstanding students selected by Schools not under the purview of a faculty will receive the “Outstanding Student Award of School”. Among these eight outstanding Faculty/School students, one will be further selected for the honour of the Most Outstanding PolyU Student of the Year.

The 2016 Outstanding Student Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on 21 February 2017 in the Chiang Chen Studio Theatre in PolyU. Highlights on the Ceremony, awardees list and sharing articles of the faculty/school awardees can be found here.
