You are cordially invited to attend the talk “Political and Economic Collaboration in Eurasia: Prospects and Challenges” by Mr. Rashid Alimov, a BELT AND ROAD Public Lecture sponsored by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The details of the talk are as follows:

In this public lecture, Mr. Rashid Alimov, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), will shed light on the contemporary geopolitical and economic dynamics in Eurasia, and analyze the opportunities and challenges in the region.

 

Today, the SCO engages 44% of the world population and covers three-fifths of Eurasia, and actively coordinates transnational infrastructure programmes, such as align China’s Belt and Road projects with the Eurasia development.  Mr. Alimov will also discuss how the Belt and Road Initiative will contribute to the Eurasia’s regional prosperity.

Speaker’s Biography

Mr. Rashid Alimov has been serving as Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) since 1 January 2016.  

 

Before joining the SCO, Mr. Alimov was a State Advisor of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan from 1991 to 1992. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan during 1992- 1994, and the permanent representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations from 1995 to 2005.  He was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan in People's Republic of China, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during 2005-2015.

 

Mr. Alimov graduated from Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and obtained a Doctor of Political Sciences (1989). He is also an author of 13 monographs and more than 50 articles on international relations issues published in various scientific journals of China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
