Entering PolyU has brought Rainbow Mak many new experiences. Having previously gone to a secondary school in Yuen Long where the sporting events were on a smaller scale, competing in sporting events with PolyU has very much broadened Rainbow’s horizons. Rainbow was primarily a swimmer in primary school, but she switched to running cross country in her S.1 year for health reasons. During her secondary school years, she was predominantly a runner, only participating in the yearly Inter-School Swimming Competition. Having participated in sporting events with the University, Rainbow believes that her exposure has been widened. Never has she been involved in sporting events that are on such large scales. She would like to take every opportunity to keep pursuing running until graduation, and would still like to be an assistant coach at the Watsons Athletics Club post-graduation. Apart from having her horizons broadened, looking back, Rainbow realises the recent sporting events have enabled her to see improvement in her exercise of competition skills. Based on her own experiences, Rainbow would like to pass the following wisdom to her schoolmates: it is important to discipline your own thoughts and show persistence when tackling a challenge, especially when giving up seems to be the easy way out. |
