Title of project:
Modulation of aqueous humor dynamics by Na-K-ATPase

Synopsis:
Glaucoma is an ocular disease characterised by an enlargement of optic cup and visual field defects, resulting in irreversible vision loss. The exact pathogenesis of glaucoma is still unclear, although elevated intraocular pressure has been considered as an important risk factor. Na-K-ATPase plays an important role in driving aqueous humor formation. The aim of my study is to investigate the mechanism by which the alpha-2 isoform of Na-K-ATPase regulates ion transport and aqueous humor dynamics. This information would be useful for devising new approaches to treat patients with glaucoma.
