Biographical Sketch

Dr Larry Hou-Yan Ng graduated with a Professional Diploma in Optometry from the then Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1991. He gained a Doctor of Optometry degree (OD) in Pacific University (USA) in 1994. After graduation, he worked in several private optometric practices for 5 years. In 2000, he joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a full-time Clinical Optometrist. He is one of the mentors in the Optometry residency program specializing in primary care optometry and contact lens practice. Dr Ng is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the British Contact Lens Association. From 2011 onwards, he is the president of the Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists. He is also a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario in Canada and a credentialed examiner of vision standards for the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand. He was appointed as a Senior Clinical Associate in the School of Optometry in December 2009.

Dr Ng’s clinical interests include primary care optometry, ocular pathology, ocular pharmacology and specialty contact lens fitting including orthokeratology. He is extensively involved in clinical and didactic teaching in the undergraduate and continuing education programs, participating in the teaching of "Clinical Optometry", "Ocular Pharmacology", "Diabetic Retinopathy", "Glaucoma", "Contact Lens Practice", "Orthokeratology" and "Optometry Case Conference".

Dr Ng has also published articles in peer reviewed journals such as the Optometry and Vision Science, the Contact Lens & Anterior Eye and the Clinical and Experimental Optometry.
