Professor of Practice (Fashion Entrepreneurship)

Biography

Dr Zhimin Chen is a Professor of Practice (Fashion Entreprenurship) in the School of Fashion and Textiles at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

He is a graduate in Fashion Design and Clothing Technology from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1992, having been funded by a Scholarship from the Glorious Sun Group, Hong Kong. He worked as a deputy quality manager and deputy production manager for Glorious Sun then moved to Manchester in the UK where he took up a university teaching role in International Fashion Business at the Manchester Metropolitan University and completed his Masters degree in Clothing (Marketing and Distribution) and research degree (PhD) there on Quality Management in International Fashion Clothing Supply Chians.

Dr Chen also qualified as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and became a Charted Member of the Textile Institute. As Senior Lecturer in the Manchester Fashion Institute, Dr Chen's knowledge, research and experience in working with supply chain management, industry and academic institutions internationally were put to use in programme leadership not only to provide high-quality learning experience at both undergraduate and Masters levels, but also in the supervision of postgraduate research students.

Active in both academic research and academic enterprise, Dr Chen's specialist areas of expertise are in Fashion Supply Chain Management, International Fashion Business, Sustainable Fashion, Fashion Culture and Consumer Behaviour, and he has published papers in international journals on those toipcs. Apart from teaching, research and academic programme management, Dr Chen has also engaged with project leadership, the organization of student placements, events design, collaborative partnerships, and the management of income-generating academic enterprise projects and his parent's faculty's 'China Exhibition Project' in 2012 which was held in Guangzhou. Regarding external academic engagement, Dr Chen has considerable experience in developing and maintaining academic links, particularly those involving international higher education partnerships/collaborations, such as 2+2 and 3+1 Models; it is because of this that he has been awarded Visiting Professorships at three Universities in China.
